A Thanksgiving Story Connected to Christmas (the gift of Jesus)
Social Studies Activities for December 16-18
Watch the Video of the book Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving by Eric Metaxas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbDF5l_qOMI
We are preparing to go on Christmas break. Today’s story is about a man named Squanto. You may have learned about Squanto before as learning about the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving. Today’s story showed you Squanto’s life. He went through some very difficult periods of his life being captured and made a slave, being taken from his home and tribe and brought across the ocean to Europe. Yet the gift of Christmas, Jesus, came into Squanto’s life. Instead of hatred and anger because of the horrible things that happened in his life, his heart was filled with love. In the midst of the hardships of his life he had discovered the greatest gift of all, Jesus, and that resulted in him loving and helping others as Jesus teaches us to do. |
Social Studies can help us develop good character and values to live by to be the person God wants you to be for the community of people you interact with. Your Story (life) and our story is part of God’s Story. The best way to live your part in God’s Story is to line up your life to God’s ways and plans as revealed to us in the Bible, develop the character and values of Jesus into who you are.
